KT Wiz's Kim Hyun-soo reaches KBO career 4,000 total bases milestone

KT Wiz veteran hitter Kim Hyun-soo has etched his name in the KBO League history books by achieving the remarkable milestone of 4,000 total bases. The seasoned player reached this significant accomplishment during a home game against the Hanwha Eagles at KT Wiz Park on August 2.

Kim Hyun-soo, batting second and playing first base, marked the occasion with a decisive three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With his team leading 3-0 and runners on first and second, he connected powerfully with a slider from Hanwha's left-handed reliever Jo Dong-wook, sending the ball over the center field fence.

This pivotal home run brought Kim Hyun-soo's career total bases from 3,996 to 4,000, solidifying his place among the league's all-time greats. He is now the fourth player in KBO history to surpass the 4,000 total bases mark. The exclusive club includes Lee Seung-yeop (formerly Samsung Lions, 4,077 bases), Choi Hyung-woo (Samsung, 4,587 bases), and Choi Jeong (SSG Landers, 4,518 bases).

Kim Hyun-soo's journey to this record began when he joined the Doosan Bears as a drafted player in 2006. He made his debut in the same year and has been a consistent presence in the first team since 2007, steadily accumulating bases. Notably, in the 2009 season, he recorded 284 total bases, narrowly edging out Kim Sang-hyun (then KIA Tigers, 283 bases) for the total bases award. He also holds the record for most total bases in a single game, with 11, achieved in two separate games in 2014 and 2018. Earlier this month, he also set a KBO record for 17 consecutive seasons with at least 100 hits.
