Kubilius comments on Russian drone strike on Ukrainian security service headquarters

Andrius Kubilius said Vladimir Putin had brought the war back to Russia after a Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service, the SBU, in central Kyiv. The European commissioner responsible for defence and space published his comments on X.

“Putin brought it back to Russia: he is escalating the conflict, and the Ukrainians are responding with appropriate measures,” Kubilius said. He argued that this was how Putin had brought about the destruction of most of Russia’s oil refineries, the loss of international flights, and the prospect that Russian intelligence agencies would now wait for a Ukrainian drone to reach their offices.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the drone hit the SBU headquarters on Volodymyrska Street, opposite St. Sophia’s Cathedral. He said it flew directly toward the office of SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad.

Serhiy Beskrestnov, an independent presidential adviser known by the nickname “Flash,” said the drone was controlled online through a MESH radio relay. According to Beskrestnov, a Russian agent briefly activated the relay nearby during the attack.
