Kumamoto education delegation visits Kaohsiung University for metaverse curriculum exchange

A delegation from Kumamoto City, Japan, led by Education Superintendent Eiji Endo, visited National Kaohsiung University (NKU) in Taiwan to explore educational collaborations. The visit focused on advancing VR and ICT education applications and fostering international exchange, with preliminary discussions held for Taiwan and Japan's first joint metaverse curriculum.

During the visit, the delegation toured the campus and relevant teaching facilities. Discussions centered on Taiwan-Japan educational cooperation, international talent cultivation, and the potential for metaverse curricula. NKU is preparing to send its president, Chen Chi-jen, to Kumamoto in late June for further discussions aimed at promoting VR teaching and ICT education partnerships.

Wang Cheng-hung, Director of NKU's Library and Information Center, highlighted the university's progress in VR teaching and AI personalized learning platforms. These platforms have been adopted by over 200 schools in Taiwan and have patent applications pending in Japan and Vietnam. Endo expressed his deep impression of NKU's achievements in educational technology and international exchange, noting his prior awareness through Wang's work.

I had previously learned about National Kaohsiung University's achievements in educational technology and international exchange through Wang Cheng-hung. After actually visiting, I was deeply impressed.

Endo expressed hope for expanding cooperation beyond student exchanges to include teachers, educational administrators, and education committees, thereby deepening Taiwan-Japan educational ties. The delegation also visited departments within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, learning about NKU's teaching outcomes in language and cultural education, innovative design, and interdisciplinary learning.

Looking ahead, NKU plans to visit the Kumamoto City Education Center and Kumamoto Municipal Jōhoku Elementary School in late June. This visit is expected to facilitate the first cross-border metaverse curriculum exchange between Taiwan and Japan, enabling students from both locations to interact virtually. Further exchanges are planned with Kumamoto University to strengthen the ICT education cooperation network between Taiwan and Japan.
