Kuwait allocates KD139.9 million for construction material subsidies

Kuwait is set to provide significant financial support for its citizens' housing needs, with KD139.925 million allocated for the subsidy of construction materials in the current fiscal year. This funding is detailed in the State Budget Report and falls under the government's "Subsidies Item."

The subsidy program aims to alleviate the financial burden on citizens who are beneficiaries of the housing welfare system. By covering a portion of the costs associated with building and renovating homes, the government seeks to facilitate access to adequate housing.

Managing this initiative is the Supply Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This department oversees the issuance of ration cards and disbursement orders for construction materials. It also monitors the subsidy budget, commodity inventory, and the general emergency plan to ensure efficient distribution and availability.

To qualify for these subsidized building materials, applicants must meet specific criteria. They must be Kuwaiti citizens who have secured a loan from the Kuwait Credit Bank specifically for the purpose of constructing, renovating, purchasing, or undertaking demolition and reconstruction of houses. Applications are to be submitted through the government's Sahel application.

Recently, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Osama Boodai, issued a ministerial decree to revise the regulations governing the provision of subsidized and discounted building materials, signaling an ongoing effort to optimize the program's effectiveness and accessibility.
