Kuwait oil facility hit with 'severe material losses' in Iranian attacks

A vital oil facility in Kuwait suffered "severe material losses" following what state media described as "brutal and repeated Iranian attacks." The incident occurred on Saturday, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Iran and the United States, which has seen energy infrastructure in the Gulf nation targeted.

Kuwait's National Oil Company confirmed the damage in a statement, noting that the facility was evacuated and injured personnel, including firefighters and a civilian employee, received medical attention. The extent of the injuries and the precise damage to the installation were not immediately specified.

This attack is part of a series of retaliatory operations by Iran. Tehran announced that its forces had killed several U.S. soldiers in new strikes targeting American military objectives in Kuwait. The Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for attacking a "concentration point of aggressor forces" in Arifjan, Kuwait, and destroying a radar at the Ali al Salem base, along with a hangar and a drone shelter.

Further strikes reportedly hit a fuel supply pier for the U.S. fleet in Al Ahmadi port and an aircraft concentration area at the Sheikh Isa base in Bahrain. Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy also reported a fire at a power and water desalination plant, marking the second consecutive day of Iranian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure. The situation led Kuwait Airways, the national carrier, to reschedule most of its flights due to a temporary suspension of airport operations.
