Kuwait to approve $10 billion Zour petrochemical complex budget in FY 25/26

Kuwait is set to approve a substantial $10 billion budget for its Zour petrochemical complex in the upcoming 2025/2026 fiscal year. This major project, spearheaded by the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), is designed to significantly boost Kuwait's position as a global leader in petrochemical production and exports by 2030.

The merger of Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) and Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) is expected to accelerate the project's implementation. The complex will focus on producing high-quality petrochemicals that meet international environmental standards. Key products will include polypropylene and aromatics, which are essential components in manufacturing plastics, automobiles, and medical devices.

Beyond petrochemicals, the complex will also play a crucial role in supplying automotive fuel to meet the growing demands of Kuwait's local market. The project's scope includes expanding petrochemical activities both domestically and internationally, aiming to maintain Kuwait's leading role in the olefins and aromatics industry and diversify its export portfolio.

With an annual production target of 945,000 tons of polypropylene, 1.4 million tons of paraxylene aromatics, 2.0 million tons of gasoline, and 421,000 tons of benzene, the project signifies a major development in the country's industrial sector. The initial budget has been approved, and a team of young Kuwaiti professionals, along with experienced consultants, has been assembled to ensure the project's timely completion.
