Kuwaiti air defenses activated as Iran targets US airbase, Iranian media says

Kuwait's air defense systems were activated Thursday evening to intercept "hostile Iranian drone threats" in its airspace, the Kuwaiti army announced. Sirens sounded across the country as the military engaged the incoming aerial assaults.

Local sources, citing Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency, reported that Iran had launched drone and missile attacks specifically targeting the Al-Salem airbase. This base is a critical operational and logistical hub for both the Kuwaiti and US Air Forces in the region. Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), indicated that the base's Patriot air defense systems were deployed.

The General Staff of the Army notes that if explosion sounds are heard, they are the result of air defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks.

Adding to the escalating tensions, Kuwait's military also reported that a border crossing between Kuwait and Iraq, the Abdali crossing, was subjected to repeated drone targeting. The Defense Ministry Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi stated that these attacks resulted in material damage, though no human injuries were recorded.
