Kwara okays 30% peculiar allowance for media houses, agencies, parastatals

The Kwara State Government has announced the approval of a 30% Peculiar Allowance for employees in media houses, agencies, and parastatals, who were previously not included in the benefit granted to mainstream civil servants. This decision, announced in Ilorin on Monday, aims to deepen equity and inclusion across the state's public service.

Olufunke Shittu, the Acting Head of Service, stated that the approval aligns with ongoing welfare reforms and reflects the government's commitment to fairness and workers' welfare. The inclusion of agencies, parastatals, and media houses is intended to rectify earlier disparities and ensure that all public servants benefit equitably from state welfare policies.

The implementation of the 30% Peculiar Allowance is set to commence on June 1, 2026. Shittu urged all affected establishments to ensure strict compliance with the directive. She also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his consistent efforts to improve the living conditions and morale of state workers.

In addition to the allowance, Shittu revealed that salaries for May had been disbursed ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to allow workers adequate preparation time. The government extended felicitations to all workers and Muslim faithful for a peaceful celebration, expressing optimism that the new welfare measures will foster greater harmony and efficiency within the public service.
