Kwara PDP adopts Kawu as consensus gov candidate

Engr. Kale Kawu has been adopted as the consensus governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State for the upcoming 2027 election. The announcement came on Saturday from former Senate President Bukola Saraki, following extensive consultations with party stakeholders and other governorship aspirants.

The consensus arrangement bypasses a contested primary election, a decision agreed upon by the five aspirants who had initially declared interest in the PDP ticket. These aspirants included Ali Ahmad, Omar Bolaji Gambari, Ladi Hassan, Olaseni Ibiwoye, and Kawu. Saraki commended the aspirants for their willingness to step down in favor of party unity.

"The candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu," Saraki stated, adding, "I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the other aspirants who, in the supreme interest of our party and state, have graciously stepped down to support this consensus."

Kawu brings a background in public service, having previously served as Director of Projects, Procurement, and Monitoring and Evaluation at the Rural Electrification Agency before his retirement. He is also recognized as a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. The PDP's decision was made less than 24 hours after the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State endorsed the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, as their gubernatorial candidate, signaling an early start to the 2027 election contest in the state.
