Kwara police arrest suspected cultist, recover locally made pistol

The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended a suspected cultist and seized a locally fabricated pistol during a coordinated security operation in Ilorin. This action is part of the command's ongoing campaign to dismantle violent criminal networks and suppress cult-related activities.

The suspect, identified as Agboola Olamilekan, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation involving police, other security agencies, and the Kwara State Polytechnic Security Unit. He was found in possession of the firearm at the time of his arrest. The command highlighted this as a significant breakthrough in its sustained efforts against cultism and the spread of illegal weapons.

The operation forms part of the Command’s sustained efforts to disrupt cult-related activities, curb the proliferation of illegal firearms, and deny criminal elements the opportunity to thrive within Kwara State.

Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the operation aligns with the command's strategy to proactively disrupt criminal elements through intelligence-led policing. She emphasized that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the suspect's criminal network.

Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi reiterated the command's dedication to maintaining operational momentum against cultism and violent crimes. He assured residents that security agencies would persist in their efforts to rid the state of criminal elements, stressing that each successful operation contributes to dismantling criminal networks and enhancing public safety.
