Kyiv endures night of Russian missile attacks; 11 injured, including child

Kyiv, Ukraine – The Ukrainian capital endured another night of Russian aerial assaults, with at least 11 people injured, including an 11-year-old boy. The city experienced powerful explosions as Russian forces deployed ballistic missiles, marking the third such attack on Kyiv this week.

Timur Tkatchenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, urged residents to seek safety via Telegram, as reported by the Kyiv Independent. Civilian infrastructure sustained damage, including residential buildings, office blocks, and a theological seminary, even before air raid sirens sounded. Repair operations are underway in several regions, including Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv.

Russia's overnight barrage reportedly included over 120 drones and 12 missiles, with half of them being ballistic. Ukrainian defenders successfully intercepted most targets, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted on X that ballistic missiles proved more challenging to neutralize. The increasing reliance on ballistic missiles since June makes Kyiv particularly vulnerable due to their speed and difficulty for air defense systems to intercept.

In a separate incident, Russian forces also targeted Odesa's port infrastructure with missiles, resulting in one fatality, according to local authorities. These strikes follow Ukraine's recent drone attacks on Russian oil infrastructure and the port of Taganrog. Both nations are escalating operations against strategic infrastructure amidst the ongoing conflict.
