Kyiv endures second day of Russian drone attacks

Kyiv faced a relentless barrage of Russian drones for a second consecutive day, with aerial attacks striking over a dozen apartment buildings and storage depots. The sustained assault has severely disrupted civilian life and choked the economy, mirroring the prolonged air raids experienced the previous day.

Officials reported that the attacks damaged 14 warehouses, 16 private homes, three apartment buildings, and 16 vehicles in the Kyiv region. In a dangerous escalation, a second drone struck a location after emergency crews had arrived, a tactic the military refers to as a "double tap" designed to target first responders. The strikes resulted in one fatality and two injuries.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed its forces targeted a warehouse in the Kyiv region storing Ukraine's Flamingo cruise missiles and rocket fuel. Ukrainian officials have not immediately confirmed this claim, and independent verification remains pending. Recent strikes have impacted various warehouses across Kyiv and the surrounding areas, containing goods ranging from books to consumer products.

Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine's Centre for Countering Disinformation, stated that Russia is deploying fast-moving, jet-powered drones in waves, aiming to overwhelm both air defenses and the civilian population. Authorities also noted a decline in air quality in some areas due to the attacks, advising residents to keep windows closed and limit outdoor activities.

In separate incidents, Russian glide bombs destroyed a Nova Poshta sorting center in the Sumy region, and a drone hit one of its depots in Kyiv. Meanwhile, in the southern Kherson region, officials urged residents to relocate due to the potential for extended power and heating outages this winter, as the region remains largely under Russian control.
