Kyrgyz MP Urges Tuition Relief for Talented Students Amid Rising Costs

Member of Parliament Baktybek Choybekov has voiced critical concerns regarding the escalating cost of higher education in Kyrgyzstan, urging the government to implement preferential tuition fees for academically gifted students. During a parliamentary session, Choybekov underscored the financial strain that current tuition rates place on ordinary citizens, particularly families struggling to support two or three children simultaneously pursuing university degrees.

Choybekov pointed out that the increasing expense of education comes at a time when citizens are already grappling with rising prices for essential goods and housing. He emphasized that without financial support, Kyrgyzstan risks losing a significant number of its brightest young minds, as higher education becomes increasingly inaccessible. The proposal aims to provide a crucial lifeline to talented students who have demonstrated excellence in their studies, extracurricular activities, and sports.

And this is not the limit, they say that an increase in the amount is expected in the coming years. This strongly hits the pockets of ordinary citizens. Especially if there are 2-3 students in the family. At the same time, prices for food and rent are rising in the country. Students are asking the cabinet to consider the issue of tuition benefits for talented students who have proven themselves in studies, socio-cultural activities, and sports. Otherwise, without support, we may lose many students, as university education is becoming increasingly unaffordable.

Furthermore, the MP highlighted a critical gap in information flow concerning international scholarship programs. He noted that many young Kyrgyzstani citizens are eager to pursue higher education abroad on government-funded scholarships but lack awareness of available opportunities and the application processes. Choybekov called for a concerted effort to improve the dissemination of this vital information, ensuring that regional youth are not left behind due to a lack of awareness.

This initiative reflects a growing national concern in Kyrgyzstan about educational accessibility and the development of its human capital.
