Kyrgyz Police Deny Restricted Access at Altinken Checkpoint

Police in Kyrgyzstan's Chuy region have refuted social media rumors about restricted access at the Altinken checkpoint. The authorities stated that the road is a public thoroughfare and that no restrictions are in place for pedestrians or vehicles.

The clarification followed an incident on August 5 involving participants of a Kok Boru (a traditional horseback sport) game. While players freely passed through the checkpoint to reach the Ok-Torkoy pasture for the competition, some attempted to transport a goat carcass used in the game afterward. Security measures were implemented to prevent damage to nearby industrial facilities and ensure employee safety due to the game's extreme nature.

Appropriate safety measures were taken to prevent damage to property of industrial facilities located along the road and to ensure the safety of employees.

Police emphasized that all participants left the area without issue via the public road after the game concluded. They also noted that similar equestrian events are regularly held at Ok-Torkoy pasture and no prior restrictions on road access have been recorded. The Internal Affairs Directorate urged the public and social media users to avoid spreading unverified information. Altinken LLC is a Chinese-Kyrgyz gold mining and processing joint venture.
