Kyrgyz students in Germany face job placement issues, embassy warns

Students from Kyrgyzstan seeking work in Germany during their holidays are facing a distressing reality: promised employment often fails to materialize upon arrival. The German Embassy in Bishkek has highlighted a growing number of cases where students discover their expected jobs are non-existent after traveling to Germany.

We remind you that for the application for a work visa during the holidays, the involvement of an intermediary agency is not mandatory.

Investigations suggest that certain companies in Kyrgyzstan are exploiting this situation. These firms reportedly charge students fees for help with securing employment in Germany and for preparing necessary visa documents. The embassy emphasizes that engaging such intermediaries is not mandatory for applying for a work visa during vacation periods.

To mitigate these risks, the German Embassy strongly advises students to meticulously review all terms and conditions of any employment contract before signing. Direct communication with the prospective employer is recommended before entering Germany. While the embassy verifies the legitimacy of employment relationships as part of the visa process, it cannot guarantee actual job placement once a visa is issued.

Students who discover their employment will not proceed before their departure are urged to contact the agency through which their documents were processed, as that agency bears responsibility. If already in Germany, students can seek assistance from the Federal Employment Agency. Approximately 150 students participating in the 'Ferienjob' program have reported potential job and accommodation issues, though one academy involved partially refuted these claims, stating students continue to work while new vacancies are sought.
