Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland Sign Agreement to Enable Passenger and Cargo Transport

Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland have formalized their transportation cooperation with the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on international road transport of passengers and cargo. The accord, finalized on August 12, 2026, creates a crucial legal foundation for cross-border movement between the two nations.

Officials from the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan reported that the agreement was signed following a meeting between the Kyrgyz Minister of Transport and Communications, Talantbek Soltobaev, and the Swiss Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Sirocco Messerli. This pact is seen as a significant step toward enhancing the transport relationship between Bishkek and Bern.

The document creates the necessary legal framework for the implementation of international road transport between Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland, as well as for the organization of transit transport through the territories of the parties.

The newly established legal framework not only permits direct international road transport but also facilitates transit operations across the territories of both Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland. This is expected to broaden transportation interactions, stimulate economic and trade relations, support business ventures, encourage tourism, and improve the overall mobility of citizens.

Both the Kyrgyz Ministry of Transport and the Swiss Federal Council anticipate that this agreement will spur further development in the road transport sector. It is poised to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthening the ties between the two countries through improved logistical and travel networks.
