Kyrgyzstan and Tatarstan Leaders Meet in Cholpon-Ata

Rustam Minnikhanov, head of Tatarstan, met Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov after arriving in Cholpon-Ata for the closing ceremony of the 2026 World Nomad Games.

Minnikhanov said he had been deeply impressed by the organization of the games and its spectacular opening ceremony. He told Japarov that matching Kyrgyzstan’s success would be difficult, but said Tatarstan would try when Kazan hosts the next games in 2028.

Japarov expressed readiness to provide comprehensive support for organizing the event in Russia. Minnikhanov also congratulated the Kyrgyz president on the successful hosting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s anniversary summit, which marked the SCO’s 25th anniversary.

The leaders discussed trade and economic cooperation between Tatarstan and Kyrgyzstan. According to Minnikhanov, mutual trade grew by more than a third last year and exceeded $182 million. Their cooperation also includes biodiversity conservation, particularly efforts to preserve and increase the snow leopard population.

Minnikhanov thanked Japarov for his personal attention to strengthening relations between Tatarstan and Kyrgyzstan within the friendly ties between Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
