Kyrgyzstan and Tatarstan leaders discuss trade, sports and snow leopard conservation

Rustam Minnikhanov, head of Tatarstan, told Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov that Kyrgyzstan’s organization of the World Nomad Games would be difficult to match.

“I was very impressed by the level of organization of these Games and the spectacle of the opening ceremony. It will be very difficult for us to repeat your success, but we will try,” Minnikhanov said during their meeting in Cholpon-Ata.

Japarov expressed readiness to provide comprehensive support for Russia’s organization of the next World Nomad Games. The competition will take place in Kazan in 2028. Minnikhanov had arrived in Kyrgyzstan to attend the closing ceremony of the 2026 games, which will be held in Cholpon-Ata.

The leaders also discussed trade and economic cooperation between Tatarstan and Kyrgyzstan. Minnikhanov said mutual trade had increased by more than one-third last year and exceeded $182 million.

Their cooperation also extends beyond the economy and industry. The two sides work together to preserve biological diversity, including efforts to protect and increase the snow leopard population. Minnikhanov thanked Japarov for his personal attention to strengthening ties between Tatarstan and Kyrgyzstan within the friendly relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan. He also congratulated Japarov on the successful organization of the anniversary Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit marking the group’s 25th anniversary.
