Kyrgyzstan Hosts One of World's Highest Murals

An art group named BASICOLORS has completed a mural, "KYZ POWER," at a staggering 3,600 meters above sea level in Kyrgyzstan's Achyk-Tash valley, located at the foot of Peak Lenin. The artists claim it is one of the highest-altitude murals globally, a feat achieved during the summer tourist season.

Viktor Tsoi, the project's author, explained that the mural is dedicated to the strength and resilience of young women in Central Asia. The depicted heroine wears a spacesuit, a symbol representing the expectations, restrictions, and stereotypes that young women often encounter. This imagery is also linked to the mural's high-altitude location, where the proximity to the starry sky and cosmos is emphasized, with the surrounding mountains forming part of the artwork's concept.

The core idea behind the "KYZ POWER" project is to inspire individuals to overcome externally imposed limitations and to assert their freedom to choose their own life paths. The street art project specifically focuses on women who pursue self-realization in diverse fields, including science, art, business, and mountaineering, highlighting their independence and determination to surmount obstacles.

According to the project team, most murals worldwide are created at altitudes below 2,500 meters. While some murals exist at higher elevations, such as up to 3,800 meters in La Paz, Bolivia, the "KYZ POWER" mural stands out for its extreme altitude. The project is set to continue its journey in Europe in the autumn of 2026, with the mural's character slated to appear in several European cities as part of a tour.
