Kyrgyzstan Labor Inspectors Recover Over 4 Million Som in Unpaid Wages

Labor inspectors in Kyrgyzstan have recovered 4.4 million som (approximately $50,000 USD) in unpaid wages for workers during the first half of 2026. This figure, reported by the Ministry of Labor, shows a notable decrease of 38.8% compared to the 7.19 million som recovered in the same period of the previous year.

The reduction in recovered wages suggests a potential improvement in labor law compliance or a decrease in reported wage disputes. However, the overall debt for unpaid wages in Kyrgyzstan reached 91.9 million som as of June 1, 2026, an 18.2% increase from the previous year, according to the National Statistical Committee.

Furthermore, compensation paid for work-related injuries also experienced a substantial drop. In the first six months of 2026, workers received 11.38 million som in compensation, a stark 80.7% decrease from the 58.82 million som paid out in the same period of 2025.

These figures indicate a complex labor situation in Kyrgyzstan, with a decrease in recovered unpaid wages and injury compensation, yet a concurrent rise in the total amount of outstanding wage debt. The reasons behind these contrasting trends require further investigation.
