Kyrgyzstan MP proposed for state protection after court incident

Lawmaker Dastanbek Djumabekov proposed providing state protection to Member of Parliament Elvira Surabaldieva during a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, Kyrgyzstan's parliament. Djumabekov stated that he witnessed Surabaldieva attending a court session related to the "Case of 75" and felt she was subjected to pressure.

"I don't know what her status was. But it seemed to me that she was subjected to pressure in court. I believe that in light of recent events, she needs to be provided with state protection. I don't want to think about the worst, but God forbid she is in danger, we need to act preventatively," Djumabekov said. He urged the speaker of parliament to discuss the matter with the president, who has the authority to grant state protection by decree.

This call for protection follows an incident where Surabaldieva reportedly had a verbal altercation with Kamchybek Tashiev, the former head of the GKNB, during a court session. The "Case of 75" involves former officials accused of preparing to violently seize power. Tashiev also faces charges of abuse of official position. The trial, which began on June 15, is being held in an open session for the first time. Video recordings of interrogations of the accused have also surfaced online since the trial commenced.
