Kyrgyzstan privatizes 24 state assets; four sold, others face challenges

Kyrgyzstan's State Agency for State Property Management has reported progress on its privatization program, with 24 state assets slated for sale between 2023 and 2025. As of now, four assets have successfully been sold through electronic auctions, signaling a move towards streamlining state holdings.

Among the notable transactions are the complete sale of Alfa Telecom shares and partial sales in the companies Kapriz and SKA Resource. Furthermore, three state enterprises, including Kyrgyzstan's coal producer "Kygryzkomur" and "Customs Infrastructure," have been converted into open joint-stock companies. This restructuring aims to enhance efficiency and attract investment.

However, the privatization process is not without its challenges. Several assets, including administrative buildings and shares in "Saramjal Trans," have repeatedly failed to attract buyers at auction. Efforts are ongoing to transfer the 100% shares of "Kumtor Operating Company" to "Kyrgyzaltyn," and other state properties have been allocated for use by government bodies, such as the President's Office and the Ministry of Finance.
