Kyrgyzstan's Traffic Police clarify rules on personalized license plates

The Traffic Police Service of Kyrgyzstan has clarified the regulations surrounding the use of personalized license plates on vehicles. Responding to a citizen's inquiry about a car spotted with both a state and a personalized plate in Bishkek, the service explained that while personalized plates are permissible, they serve as an addition rather than a substitute for the standard state registration number. This clarification addresses potential confusion and ensures compliance with traffic laws within the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the press service, the personalized plate is an optional accessory that can be displayed on the front of the vehicle. The primary state license plate must always be used as required by law. The issuance of these special plates is governed by a specific regulation, with a notable cost of 250,000 Kyrgyz som. Crucially, each personalized plate must be officially registered in the database of the specialized center, ensuring traceability and adherence to the established framework.

The situation that prompted this explanation involved a Toyota Camry observed in Bishkek's 6th micro-district, displaying different license plates. Residents reported the suspicious vehicle, prompting authorities to investigate. The Patrol Police Service emphasized that using two different state license plates on a single vehicle is strictly prohibited. However, they reiterated that the combination of a standard state plate and a properly registered personalized plate, when displayed according to regulations, does not constitute a violation.
