Kyrgyzstan seeks international recognition as a disease-free zone

Kyrgyzstan is making a concerted effort to elevate its standing in the global agricultural and veterinary health community by pursuing international recognition as a zone free from several dangerous animal diseases, including foot-and-mouth disease and African horse sickness. This initiative, spearheaded by the Directorate of Veterinary Services, underscores the nation's commitment to enhancing biosecurity and facilitating international trade in animal products.

The main topic of the meeting was Kyrgyzstan's official international status as a zone free from foot-and-mouth disease (with vaccination), African horse sickness, and other particularly dangerous diseases.

The recent meeting in Paris between the Director of Kyrgyzstan's Veterinary Services, Adilet Sotovaldev, and the Deputy Director-General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), Baba Soumare, signifies a crucial step in this process. Soumare's acknowledgment of Kyrgyzstan's active cooperation with WOAH and its utilization of expert resources is a positive indicator that the preparation of the necessary dossier will be significantly streamlined.
