Kyrgyzstan sees rising interest in teaching after salary hikes

Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Education is optimistic about alleviating teacher shortages, citing a surge in interest in the profession following a recent salary increase. Melis Muzulmanov, head of the school education department, reported that around 50 electronic applications have been submitted in the last two weeks alone.

In connection with the increase in salary, interest in the teaching profession is growing in society.

Muzulmanov explained that applicants come from diverse backgrounds, including those previously working in Russia or other sectors. He noted that individuals returning to teaching after a long break may require further professional development. Schools are actively recruiting, with vacancies posted on the automated information system "Mugalim" platform, allowing interested candidates to apply directly.

Some of them previously worked in Russia, some were employed in other fields. If a person has not worked with children for many years, then, of course, they need to undergo professional development. But in any case, schools are engaged in attracting staff independently. There are published vacancies on the "Mugalim" automated information system platform. You can view them and apply.

As of the end of the 2025/26 academic year, the republic faced a deficit of over 640 teachers. Muzulmanov stated that the exact number will be finalized at the beginning of the upcoming academic year, taking into account graduates from state-funded university programs assigned for mandatory service.
