Kyrgyzstan to build specialized Hepatology Center in Bishkek with foundation's funding

A significant step forward in Kyrgyzstan's healthcare infrastructure was marked today with the laying of a capsule for the construction of a specialized Hepatology Center at the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital in Bishkek. The project is entirely funded by the 'Ilshat' public foundation, underscoring a commitment to improving specialized medical care within the country.

The future four-story center, spanning approximately 3,100 square meters, is designed to accommodate around 100 beds. Its outpatient section will be capable of serving 20 to 50 patients daily. The facility aims to provide comprehensive care, encompassing diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing monitoring for patients with liver diseases. A key focus will be preparing patients for liver transplants, consolidating all major stages of specialized care under one roof.

Guiljigit Aaliev, the chief physician of the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital, highlighted the center's importance, stating it will be the first of its kind in Kyrgyzstan. Previously, patients with liver conditions resulting from viral hepatitis received care across various institutions. "This is very important because patients with liver pathology after viral hepatitis are treated in different places. Until now, there was no single center where they could receive all the necessary help," Aaliev explained.

Philanthropist Anvar Mametov, founder of the 'Ilshat' foundation, confirmed that the foundation will cover all construction and equipment costs, with total investments estimated at around 500 million soms. This initiative builds upon the foundation's previous contributions to the hospital, including the construction of a 100-bed корпус completed in 2023. Health Minister Damirbek Osmonov praised the foundation's ongoing support for developing the nation's medical infrastructure.

Parliament Speaker Marlen Mamataliyev emphasized the broader impact of such developments, noting the government's efforts to renovate existing hospitals and build new ones. He stated that these improvements aim to expand treatment options within Kyrgyzstan, reducing the need for citizens to seek medical care abroad. The Hepatology Center is expected to enable initial analyses and procedures locally, followed by further treatment and surgical preparation within the country.
