Kyrgyzstan to Establish National Chess Academy

Kyrgyzstan is set to establish a National Chess Academy under the Kyrgyz Chess Union after President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree supporting the initiative.

The academy will focus on improving the training system for international-level players and developing the intellectual potential of young people. It will also provide structured support for talented athletes.

The decree allows state assistance for high-performing athletes and coaches. Funding may cover international competitions, training camps, equipment and other forms of professional development.

The move follows a June 3, 2026 presidential decree that named the development and promotion of chess as a priority of state social policy for 2026-2030. The government also plans to establish a chess development fund, with the Presidential Fund expected to allocate 100 million soms for its creation.
