La Liga: Álvarez booed by Atlético Madrid fans in Villarreal draw

Atlético Madrid supporters jeered Julián Álvarez as the forward came off the bench during the team's 2-2 draw with Villarreal in La Liga. The Argentine international has been linked with a move away from the club, with Arsenal and Barcelona reportedly interested before the September 1 transfer deadline.

The match saw Atlético take the lead before Villarreal equalized from the penalty spot. The game shifted when Atlético defender Robin le Normand received a red card in the 76th minute, leading to a Villarreal penalty that put the visitors ahead. However, Atlético managed to salvage a point with a late equalizer.

Álvarez, who started the match on the bench, was booed while warming up and again when he entered the game in the 66th minute. He headed directly for the tunnel at full-time, drawing further jeers from the home crowd. Manager Diego Simeone suggested the player's early departure from the pitch had been pre-arranged.

The draw leaves Atlético with four points from their first two league matches, while Villarreal has secured two points from their opening two games, having also drawn their first fixture.
