La Liga: Real Madrid suffer first defeat of the season in 1-0 loss to Real Betis

Real Madrid’s unbeaten start to the La Liga season ended at La Cartuja, where Real Betis won 1-0 through Cucho Parrott’s second-half rebound.

Madrid began strongly and created two clear chances in the opening 15 minutes. Arda Güler’s cross found Dean Huijsen, whose acrobatic effort was saved, before Vinícius Júnior struck the post from a tight angle after another dangerous delivery from the Turkish midfielder.

Jude Bellingham created another major opportunity before halftime. His through ball released Vinícius, who set up Kylian Mbappé in the box, but Betis defenders blocked both efforts. The hosts’ goalkeeper then saved Bellingham’s header in stoppage time, and Huijsen hit the crossbar with the follow-up.

The pace dropped after the break, though Madrid continued to threaten. Mbappé missed after Huijsen intercepted the ball and set him up, while Thibaut Courtois denied Betis’ Deossa. In the 80th minute, Courtois stopped a header from a corner, but Parrott reacted first and scored from the rebound.

Madrid pushed for an equalizer. Mbappé’s attempted chip hit the crossbar, and Jesús Fortea had a goal ruled out for offside. In stoppage time, Vinícius won a penalty after being brought down in the box, but Valles saved Mbappé’s spot-kick to secure Betis’ victory.
