Labor Day 2026 in Florida: Which supermarkets will open and which will close?

Florida’s Labor Day shopping schedule will vary by business. Most stores will open on the federal holiday, but some chains and services will change their hours or close entirely.

Publix will operate on its normal schedule, although customers are advised to check the hours of nearby stores through official channels. Costco will close all of its locations across the United States for the day. Pharmacy and bakery counters may also follow different schedules from the main stores.

Banks and public offices in Florida will not provide in-person service. ATMs and digital banking will remain available. Schools in all 67 counties will suspend classes for the holiday, giving students and staff a scheduled day off.

The postal service will pause regular mail delivery and close its offices, resuming service and package delivery the following day. Most restaurants and fast-food chains will remain open, while independent establishments may set special hours or close. Retail stores and shopping centres are also expected to welcome customers, with some brands offering holiday promotions.

Labor Day will fall on Monday, September 7, 2026. The federal and state holiday is observed on the first Monday of September and originated in the late 19th century to honour the labour movement and its contributions.
