Labor MP Ed Husic taken to hospital with fractures and concussion after car accident

Labor MP Ed Husic is recovering after being hospitalized due to a car accident earlier this week. The incident occurred on Sydney's M7 motorway when Husic's car collided with a truck while he was commuting home from his electorate office.

On medical advice, Mr Husic will take a short period of leave from parliamentary duties while he recovers.

Paramedics treated Husic at the scene before he was taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment and treatment. He was discharged on Wednesday, having sustained minor abrasions, fractures, and a concussion. Photos of his car reveal significant damage to the rear driver's side, with smashed windows and deployed airbags.

A spokesperson confirmed that Husic is cooperating with police and, on medical advice, will take a brief leave from his parliamentary duties. The former industry minister expressed gratitude to the medical staff at Westmead Hospital and support from his friends and family during his hospital stay.

Husic is expected to return to his parliamentary responsibilities soon, as the Parliament is scheduled to resume in Canberra on Tuesday following the July winter break. His spokesperson noted his significant relief at escaping the accident without more severe injuries.
