Labour Party picks health expert Bintu Konto as 2027 VP candidate

The Labour Party has selected Bintu Konto, a seasoned public health expert and humanitarian leader, as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election. She will run alongside presidential candidate Dr. Chibuzo Okereke.

She coordinated engagements with governments, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, and communities on health, nutrition, WASH, and humanitarian programmes.

The party announced Konto's nomination on Saturday in Abuja, emphasizing her extensive professional background spanning over three decades. According to the National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, her selection aligns with the government's dedication to competence, integrity, inclusiveness, patriotism, and effective public service.

Konto, a trained nurse, midwife, and public health specialist with a Master's Degree, boasts a career marked by significant contributions to healthcare delivery and humanitarian interventions. Her work at Catholic Relief Services involved coordinating engagements with various stakeholders on health, nutrition, WASH, and humanitarian programs. She also supervised interventions in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states, directly improving the lives of vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons.
