Lagos announces three-week diversion for Oke-Afa Bridge repairs

The Lagos State Government has announced a three-week closure of the Oke-Afa Bridge in Isolo, beginning August 28 and concluding on September 18, to facilitate essential rehabilitation works. The bridge will be temporarily shut to vehicular traffic, requiring motorists to utilize alternative routes during this period.

The rehabilitation will be executed in two distinct phases to manage traffic flow. The first phase, from August 28 to September 11, will affect the outbound Isolo-to-Ejigbo section. During this time, drivers heading from Isolo to Ejigbo will be diverted onto the Isolo-bound carriageway from Pako Roundabout. Traffic will flow in both directions on this section before rejoining the main carriageway at Mobil Filling Station. Motorists traveling from Ejigbo will experience normal movement, sharing the carriageway with Ejigbo-bound traffic from Mobil to Pako Roundabout.

Oke-Afa Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement, and motorists are advised to use the following alternatives.

The second phase, scheduled from September 12 to September 18, will impact the inbound Ejigbo-to-Isolo section. Drivers heading from Ejigbo to Isolo will be diverted onto the Ejigbo-bound carriageway from Mobil Filling Station. Traffic will move in both directions on this diverted route before reconnecting with the main carriageway at Pako Roundabout. Motorists originating from Isolo will maintain free movement, sharing the carriageway with Isolo-bound traffic from Pako Roundabout to Mobil Filling Station.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will deploy personnel to the area to oversee vehicular movement and mitigate potential congestion. An emergency tow vehicle will also be stationed nearby to assist with any breakdowns. The state government urges motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and exercise patience throughout the rehabilitation period, emphasizing that the partial closure is part of the necessary traffic management plan.
