Lagos APC launches 2027 campaign and backs Tinubu for a second term

The Lagos chapter of Nigeria's All Progressives Congress has opened its campaign for the 2027 elections with an interfaith prayer session and a firm endorsement of President Bola Tinubu's bid for a second term.

The event at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Onikan brought together Muslim and Christian clerics and traditional worshippers. They prayed for Tinubu, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the party's governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat and other APC candidates. Supporters in party colours carried banners while drummers and performers created a campaign atmosphere.

We are not taking anybody for granted. We have only asked God to give us direction. We will work, but we are also people of faith.

The party described Tinubu's re-election as a matter of national interest. It said he had shown the capacity to govern Nigeria's diverse and complex society and had delivered on key campaign promises.

Sanwo-Olu said the party had sought divine guidance before beginning its campaign, but cautioned members against complacency. “We are not taking anybody for granted. We have only asked God to give us direction. We will work, but we are also people of faith,” he said. He added that the prayer marked the beginning of political mobilisation, not an alternative to hard work at the polls.

“We can now begin the journey after the prayer,” Sanwo-Olu said, promising to mobilise support across Lagos and the South-West. Hamzat expressed confidence that the APC would win, saying the party had placed its campaign and the country in God's hands. He also prayed for Tinubu, his wife Oluremi, Sanwo-Olu and his wife Ibijoke, along with APC candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly.
