2027: PDP Begins Battle to Reclaim Abia

The Peoples Democratic Party has formally opened its campaign to retake Abia State in 2027, declaring that the Labour Party-led government is only a temporary occupant of the state’s Government House.

Ambassador Empire Kanu, the campaign council chairman, made the claim in Umuahia during the inauguration of the council’s management team. The former Nigerian ambassador to Argentina said the PDP remained Abia’s dominant political force and would reclaim power after its defeat in the 2023 governorship election.

He told party members that the mistakes behind the 2023 loss would not be repeated and urged them to concentrate on ward-level organization, where he said the party normally secured its votes.

We knew what happened in 2023 and that mistake will never happen again. You have a very serious candidate in the person of this young man, Dr Anosike. He is very, very ready.

The council’s Director-General, Chief Obinna Nwachukwu, said the party had not been sufficiently deliberate in the last election and would now work with greater commitment. He described the desire to return to power as a “hunger for power” and said the party wanted to reconnect with residents.

PDP candidate Dr Kelechi Anosike said his campaign would emphasize ideas, welfare and service rather than insults or political attacks. He called the inauguration the start of a movement built around “People First, Abia Always” and promised specific responses to food insecurity and unemployment. Anosike also pledged to establish at least three industries during his first year in office if elected.

This is not just the inauguration of the campaign council. This is more like commencing a movement. A movement that believes People First, Abia Always.
