Lagos Court Jails Twins, Two Others for 14 Years Over Armed Robbery

Justice has been served in Lagos State as a Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court handed down a 14-year jail sentence to four men, including twins Ojomo Taiwo and Ojomo Kehinde, for their involvement in an armed robbery incident.

The convicts, aged between 27 and 34, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and armed robbery charges after entering into a plea bargain agreement. This agreement saw their potential sentence reduced from 21 years to 14 years imprisonment, a move that highlights the complexities of the legal system in handling such cases.

The court heard how the men, on June 5, 2020, posed as stranded passengers to lure a driver into their vehicle. Once inside, they brandished guns, assaulted the driver, and robbed him of his valuables and vehicle. Fortunately, the vehicle was recovered the same day, but the victim endured a terrifying ordeal.

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe emphasized that while plea bargains can be considered, the court is not strictly bound by their terms. The sentence, which runs from the date of remand, serves as a stern warning against criminal activities in the state. This conviction underscores the ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of citizens in Lagos.
