Lagos estate leadership denies fraud allegations

In a strong rebuttal, the leadership of Happyland Estate, located in the Eti-Osa area of Lagos, has categorically dismissed recent accusations of financial impropriety. These claims, suggesting a diversion of over N28.5 million and alleged shielding by senior police officials, have been labeled as misleading and entirely inconsistent with the estate's demonstrable progress.

The estate's Chairman, Hyacinth Eze, speaking directly to our correspondent, asserted that the current administration has upheld strict financial discipline and overseen substantial infrastructural development since taking office in January 2025. He presented figures showing a remarkable increase in the estate's finances, which reportedly grew from approximately N10 million at the start of their tenure to nearly N40 million by April 2026. This financial growth, Eze argued, directly contradicts any notion of fund diversion.

The estate’s finances have recorded a significant boost, growing by over 300 per cent — from N10m at the commencement of our tenure in January 2025 to approximately N40m as of April 2026.

Furthermore, the estate leadership emphasized their commitment to democratic governance and transparency. They pointed to visible improvements in roads, drainage systems, and security as tangible proof of prudent fund management. The introduction of monthly financial reports and biannual audits are cited as mechanisms to ensure accountability. While acknowledging that a faction of residents continues to voice concerns, the leadership urged unity, warning that prolonged disputes could jeopardize the estate's development and reputation as a burgeoning residential hub in Lagos. They remain open to independent verification of their accounts, reiterating their stance that no funds have been misappropriated.
