Lagos Govt Arrests Hoodlums Harassing Motorists on Lekki-Ajah Expressway

Lagos State authorities have launched a crackdown on individuals accused of harassing and extorting motorists along major roads, particularly the Lekki-Ajah Expressway. Operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) conducted a midnight operation to apprehend miscreants who allegedly threaten road users, demand money, and damage vehicles when refused.

The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) conducted a midnight enforcement operation along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway to apprehend miscreants and hoodlums who have been constituting a nuisance and posing a threat to motorists and other road users.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated on X that the government will sustain intelligence-led operations against criminal elements disrupting public safety and movement. This action follows a documentary that highlighted celebrities being harassed and extorted by street urchins.

The continued financial support and patronage they receive from some influencers, celebrities, and members of the public, as seen in this video, inadvertently encourage them to return to the streets and, in some cases, view it as a lucrative means of livelihood, while also breeding a sense of entitlement.

Wahab noted that while the government has repeatedly removed street dwellers, public patronage inadvertently encourages their return. He urged residents to avoid actions that support street begging and lawlessness, emphasizing that public cooperation is vital for safer roads. The government aims to tackle the menace and ensure orderly movement across the state.

We therefore urge everyone to desist from activities that may inadvertently encourage lawlessness, insecurity, street begging, and environmental nuisance on our roads.
