Lagos LG shares food to 1,000 households

One thousand vulnerable households in Lagos’s Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area received food items on Thursday through the second edition of the Adetola Food Bank initiative.

Residents collected rice, beans, yam and garri at the council secretariat. Chairman Adetola Abubakar said the programme was intended to provide immediate relief and described local government as the level of administration closest to residents.

This is series two. It is a project led by the Adetola Adunni administration. We have 1,000 vulnerable homes. We are providing them with rice, garri, beans and yam. The beneficiaries are all going home with the foodstuff today.

Abubakar linked the intervention to increased funding for local governments, which she attributed to the Federal Government’s economic policies, including the removal of the fuel subsidy. She said the additional funds had enabled the council to undertake projects and provide services.

By next week, we will be reaching out to another 1,000 residents of Agboyi-Ketu and empowering them with N100,000 each. This is the Renewed Hope cash intervention.

The chairman said the administration had facilitated 16 road projects in its first year and was working to improve healthcare access. She also announced that another 1,000 residents would receive 100,000 naira each the following week under a Renewed Hope cash intervention programme.

A beneficiary thanked the chairman and described the support as timely and helpful. Abubakar urged residents to support government programmes by obeying the law and meeting civic obligations, including paying taxes.
