Lagos ready to host 2026 CAF Awards – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State is ready to host the upcoming CAF Awards ceremony, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressing the state's commitment to ensuring a successful event. This assurance follows a recent inspection of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, commonly known as the National Theatre, by a five-member delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The CAF delegation, led by Dr. Christian Emeruwa, CAF's Head of Safety and Security, visited Nigeria to assess facilities proposed for hosting the organization's 48th Ordinary General Assembly and the annual CAF Awards. The team, which also includes specialists in technology, travel, accommodation, transport, and branding, was received by officials from the Lagos State Sports Commission, led by Director-General Lekan Fatodu, during their inspection of the National Theatre.

This marks Nigeria's fifth time hosting the CAF Awards, with Lagos having hosted the most recent edition in January 2015.

While Abuja is scheduled to host the CAF General Assembly on November 21, 2026, Lagos will be the focal point for the awards ceremony honoring the continent's top football personalities. The decision for Nigeria to host these major CAF events was approved by President Bola Tinubu in Nairobi, Kenya, two months prior, following a request from CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
