Lagos shuts Fusho Williams Avenue for four days over road rehabilitation

Motorists in Lagos are facing significant traffic disruptions as Fusho Williams Avenue in Anthony Village has been closed for four days to undergo crucial rehabilitation work. The closure impacts a major artery connecting Fadeyi, Gbagada, Oshodi, and Ikorodu Road, leading to slow movement as excavation and construction commence.

The Anthony Village service lane has long been a notorious traffic bottleneck, plagued by recurring potholes and previous repair challenges. Construction equipment, including graders and rollers, is now on-site. Pedestrians are urged to exercise caution as parts of the walkway are affected.

This road has been bad for a while, exacerbated by the constant rains in Lagos. The government has been repairing this road with asphalt, and whenever the rains come, it gets damaged again until the next cycle. So, government has decided to put a more permanent solution in place.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the closure, appealing for patience. He explained that previous asphalt repairs had failed due to heavy rainfall, prompting the government to opt for a more permanent solution using interlocking stones. The contractor is working around the clock to complete the project within the four-day timeframe, weather permitting.

Osiyemi acknowledged the temporary inconvenience but stressed the intervention's goal of providing a lasting fix. Motorists are advised to plan journeys, use alternative routes like Pedro for those heading from Fadeyi to Gbagada, and check traffic updates. Delays are expected, especially during peak hours, and commuters are encouraged to leave earlier or use navigation apps.
