Lagos to host 2026 CAF Awards

Lagos will host the prestigious 2026 CAF Awards, celebrating the best of African football, according to Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission. Fatodu confirmed the city's selection in an interview, marking a significant event for Nigeria's sporting landscape.

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Theatre in Iganmu, has been designated as the venue for the gala. This occasion annually recognizes the continent's most exceptional footballers, coaches, clubs, national teams, and administrators for their achievements over the preceding year.

Hosting the CAF Awards further enhances Nigeria's profile as a key destination for major continental sporting events. It underscores the nation's continuous contribution to the growth and promotion of African football. The event is expected to draw top football stars and stakeholders from across the continent.

This confirmation follows Nigeria's earlier announcement as the host for the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in October. Nigeria has a history of hosting the CAF Awards, having previously hosted the ceremony in 2015 and 2017. Notable past winners include Riyad Mahrez for Men's Player of the Year and Asisat Oshoala for Women's Player of the Year.
