Lai Ching-te Joins Han Kuang Drill, Simulating Wartime Command Transfer

President Lai Ching-te took part in Taiwan's Han Kuang military exercises, participating for the first time in a simulated wartime relocation to the Hengshan Command Center. The drill involved a convoy of military vehicles, including domestically produced Cloud Leopard armored vehicles, escorting Lai from the Presidential Office to the command center. This simulated transfer was designed to test the government's ability to maintain operations and command during an enemy attack.

The exercise featured a three-wave decoy strategy to protect the president, with U.S. personnel observing the proceedings. This observation underscores the heightened attention from the U.S. regarding the security of Taiwan's top leadership and wartime defense plans. The Presidential Office stated the drill aimed to examine the command system, inter-departmental coordination, and emergency response mechanisms.

Presidential spokesperson Kuo Ya-hui emphasized that the exercise tested the government's capacity to operate effectively and safeguard national security and citizens' lives amidst various emergencies. The simulation is a critical component of Taiwan's defense strategy, ensuring readiness against potential threats.
