Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez star as Barcelona run riot at Valencia

Barcelona overwhelmed Valencia 5-0 on Sunday, with Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez driving a result that kept the champions perfect at the start of the La Liga season.

Yamal opened the scoring inside six minutes, lifting a shot over goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski from a tight angle after receiving Fermin’s pass. Fermin then struck from 18 yards in the 22nd minute after Anthony Gordon set him up.

Fermin turned provider again shortly after halftime. He ran behind the Valencia defence from a Yamal pass and squared the ball across the six-yard box for Raphinha to tap in at the back post.

Barcelona continued to create chances at will. Rodri headed against the crossbar, and Pedri added a fourth in the 79th minute. Gabriel Jesus made his Barcelona debut from the bench after moving from Arsenal, before Yamal completed the scoring from close range.

The result gave Barcelona 12 points from four matches, three more than second-placed Real Madrid. Their 17 goals are the most in La Liga so far, while Valencia stayed bottom with one point and never appeared likely to take anything from the match.
