Lampard Confirms Onyeka Fit for Manchester City Match

Frank Onyeka is available for Coventry City’s Premier League trip to Manchester City, manager Frank Lampard confirmed at a pre-match news conference. The Nigerian midfielder missed Coventry’s last two matches against Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup and Hull City in the Premier League.

Onyeka played the full 90 minutes in Coventry’s opening league match, a 3-0 defeat by reigning champions Arsenal. Coventry were required to sign him permanently after gaining promotion, following a second half of last season in which he scored once and supplied one assist in 14 Championship appearances. His goal against Derby County was shortlisted for the club’s Goal of the Season award.

Lampard gave a brief update on the midfielder’s condition: “He is available for tomorrow.” Onyeka’s return could encourage Nigeria coach Eric Chelle, who has included him in plans for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Femi Azeez, however, will have to wait for his Brighton Premier League debut. The winger joined Brighton from Millwall on deadline day on a four-year contract running until June 30, 2030, but he remains sidelined after suffering hamstring discomfort on the opening day of the Championship season.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler said: “Femi is obviously carrying a slight injury at the moment. I think Chema can definitely be an option for tomorrow. With Femi, we have to wait this weekend and hopefully he will be available for the next game.” Hurzeler praised Azeez’s ability to score from either side, his final-third decision-making and his work rate.
