Land fire threatens homes in Palangka Raya; residents and officers battle flames

A land fire loomed over residential areas in Sabaru Village, Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The advancing flames prompted residents and a joint team of officers to engage in a strenuous effort to combat the blaze.

Working side-by-side, the community and emergency personnel utilized available water sources, including water from residents' wells, drainage systems, and water tanker trucks. Their primary objective was to halt the fire's progression and prevent it from engulfing the nearby homes.

The combined efforts of the residents and the joint officers proved successful. They managed to contain and extinguish the fire, ensuring that the flames did not reach the residential area and protecting the homes from destruction. The use of simple tools like wood was also employed by residents to help beat back the fire as it approached their neighborhood.
