Lando Norris claims maiden F1 win at 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix

Lando Norris achieved his maiden Formula 1 win of the 2026 season at the Hungarian Grand Prix, held at the Hungaroring circuit on Sunday. The McLaren driver dominated the 70-lap race, starting from pole position and maintaining a strong performance throughout.

Norris seized the lead on lap 46 by overtaking Kimi Antonelli and maintained his advantage until crossing the finish line. This victory marks Norris's first of the 2026 season and the 12th of his Formula 1 career. Max Verstappen of Red Bull secured second place, with Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli rounding out the top three.

Drama unfolded in the latter half of the race, with Verstappen capitalizing on incidents to secure his runner-up position. He remained on track when Oscar Piastri, who was in second, retired due to gearbox issues on lap 56. Verstappen's strategic move allowed him to climb to second and hold it. Meanwhile, Antonelli fended off rivals in the final laps to claim third.

Charles Leclerc finished fourth, ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who dropped to fifth. Hamilton initially crossed the line in fourth but received a five-second penalty for a pit lane speeding violation. The Hungarian Grand Prix concluded the first half of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Kimi Antonelli leads the drivers' standings with 219 points, followed by Lewis Hamilton (169 points) and George Russell (160 points). The sport now enters a four-week summer break before resuming with the Dutch Grand Prix on August 23.
