Laptop coach Dambrauskas eyes European breakthrough with Sabah Baku

Lithuanian football coach Valdas Dambrauskas stands on the cusp of a significant European achievement, with his team, Azerbaijan's Sabah Baku, vying for a spot in the Champions League or Europa League main stages. This potential debut in a major European competition for the Azerbaijani club, and by extension for Dambrauskas, marks a notable step in his career.

Dambrauskas is no stranger to success, having previously led Zalgiris Vilnius to multiple domestic titles in Lithuania and Hajduk Split to a Croatian Cup victory. His tenure in Hungary with DVTK was particularly noted for his forward-thinking approach. The club's former sporting director, Csenger Horváth, highlighted Dambrauskas's use of new technologies and data-based analysis as key factors in his recruitment.

However, Dambrauskas's time in Miskolc was brief. Despite signing a contract that was set to run until the summer of 2027, he departed after just 12 matches. Reports suggest his decision to leave was influenced by the arrival of a new sporting director, Zoltán Kovács, shortly after Horváth's departure. This abrupt exit, which reportedly cost DVTK no financial compensation, leaves a question mark over his Hungarian chapter, even as he pursues new European heights with Sabah Baku.
