Larkin incumbent confident of defending seat based on five-year record

Mohd. Hairi Md. Shah, the incumbent for the Larkin state seat under the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, expresses confidence in retaining his position. He bases this assurance on his consistent track record and achievements over the past five years as the assemblyman for Larkin, Johor.

I see the opportunity is there, but we cannot be complacent. I am continuing my work as usual, consistently engaging with various groups including entrepreneurs, visiting the sick, and connecting with youth and all segments of society regardless of race.

Hairi detailed the progress made during his term, stating that 46 development projects have been initiated, with 25 already completed and the rest actively underway. Significant efforts have been made to address housing issues, including the relocation of residents from squatter settlements in Kampung Sri Paya, Kampung Seri Kenangan, and Kampung Ungku Mohsin to improved living conditions. Additionally, the Larkin flats have been upgraded, and various places of worship have seen renovations.

Alhamdulillah, throughout this term, 46 development projects have been and are being implemented, 25 projects have been fully completed, the rest are progressing rapidly.

Addressing the contentious issue of Malay Reserve Land in Kampung Melayu Majidee, Hairi acknowledged it as a political talking point. He clarified that the land status is leasehold, making conversion to freehold difficult. The government's approach has been to assist residents in applying for lease extensions and offering a 50% premium discount to alleviate their financial burden, framing it as advocating for their rights within legal boundaries.

This issue is not new, unfortunately, it has become a political tool that gives the perception that the state government is doing nothing to help the residents.

If given another mandate, Hairi plans to finalize outstanding development projects, ensure the proper maintenance and upgrading of sports facilities within the constituency, and create more family-friendly recreational spaces. He also aims to improve road infrastructure to ease traffic congestion and expand welfare programs, including the establishment of more Tabika Kemas Bangsa Johor and Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor kindergartens in Larkin. He urged voters, particularly those working in Singapore, not to neglect their voting responsibilities.

Firstly, I want to resolve the outstanding development issues, then ensure that every sports hub in the DUN Larkin is well-maintained and upgraded. I also want to provide suitable recreational places for the whole family.
