Latvia to deploy radar systems on eastern border by September

Latvian Defense Minister Raivis Melnis has mandated the installation of radar systems along the country's eastern border by the end of September. This directive is intended to substantially bolster the nation's defense against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones.

Melnis explained that the radar systems require preparation and integration into the overall defense infrastructure. The acquisition of supplementary command and control systems is also necessary to ensure seamless operation. To meet the September deadline for enhanced eastern border protection, additional radars must be procured. Discussions are reportedly underway with an unnamed country for these crucial radar acquisitions.

The Defense Ministry's plan encompasses covering the entire eastern border with anti-drone systems by the end of September. Currently, an automated system is operational at one border location, serving as a platform for training and practical testing of solutions. The objective is to achieve comprehensive coverage of the eastern frontier with interconnected, automated systems by the stipulated deadline.

An automated system is already in place at one location on the border, used for operational familiarization and practical testing. By the end of September, the ministry aims for the entire eastern border to be covered by integrated and automated control systems.
